Malaysia detected the first cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on late of January 2020. The number of total cases remained relatively low for around one and a half month until localized clusters emerged in March and the number of cases keeps growing since then. On 16 March, the Malaysian government announced a “Movement Control Order” (MCO), initially planned to last until 31 March and then extended until 14 April; on 10 April a further extension until 28 April and subsequently to 12 May was announced.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced the fourth extension of the MCO, currently with loosened restrictions under the “Conditional MCO” (CMCO), for another four weeks from May 13 to June 9.
Lauk started this initiative at the beginning of MCO. At that point of time, we realised a major disruption in our daily activities which affected all walks of life in the urban and rural area. We started to raise fund among friends and family for this initiative and expanded our reach to Lauk customers and network of NGO’s and raised about RM20,000 in the first few days.
Ever since we started, we have reached by many donors and NGO’s to sponsor and collaborate with us for this initiative. We would like to thank our donors, collaboration partner; Yayasan Usahawan Negara, IMARET and Sejahtera Malaysia for your help and generosity in extending our hands.
We will be continuing this initiative until the end of Ramadhan and Post CMCO, some of your contributions will go directly to other beneficiaries and affected community as well.
